MEASUREMENTS GRAND TOUR

At Bravur we have a long-lasting love affair with cycling. It was actually cycling that brought the two Bravur founders, Johan and Magnus, together when racing against each other during the -90s. At that time it wasn't a friendly relation, but eventually, when both had stopped racing, there was room for friendship and the love for cycling has remained.

The Grand Tour series was developed as an homage to the sport of cycling and the biggest and most beautiful races in the world, the three grand tours in Italy, France and Spain.

La Grande Boucle, meaning the big loop, refers to the Tour de France, which is the oldest and most prestigious race of the Grand Tours.

A ”grand tour” is a 3 week long race, with only two rest days. The races cover a mix of terrain, from flat sprint stages, rolling hilly stages to mountain top finishes. The mountains usually produce the most exciting racing and it is also here that the battle for the general classification is often won. Or lost.

THE DIAL

The watch feature several design elements from the Tour de France and the world of cycling. One of the most obvious is the yellow accents used on the big second hand and the sub dial hands.

The yellow color, which is associated with Tour de France and the leader's jersey, has its origin from newspaper L'Auto, that founded the race and was printed on yellow paper.

Besides the yellow jersey the race also has a has a polka dotted mountains jersey and a green sprinters jersey. These two jerseys were the inspiration for the subdued green dial with a discreet polka dot pattern. The dots are achieved by a glossy paint layer, and shift from almost invisible to eye-catching, depending on the light.

At minute 13 you will find number 13 upside down, a nod to the longtime tradition that the rider with race number 13 wears it upside down to counteract any bad luck.

The dial features a 15 minute counter at 3 o'clock, a 12 hour counter at 6 o'clock and a small second at 9 o'clock. The main second hand will start once you press the chronograph pusher.

THE CASE

We wanted to create an elegant, yet powerful, case design. The classic dimension of the watch, 38,2 mm diameter, is smaller than most chronographs which we think is beautiful.

We have carefully combined polished and brushed surfaces to create a visually interesting look.

On the case back you will find a recessed "finish line" checker pattern, with a sand blasted finish. A classic racing reference.

The two pushers are easy to operate and the crown features our signature design with a recessed surface.

THE MOVEMENT

Inside La Grande Boucle you'll find a Swiss made Sellita SW511 movement, with rhodium plating and decoration. The beautiful movement, which can be seen through the sapphire case back, also features blue screws and a custom rotor with a deep etched "finish line" pattern.

The 27 jewel movement impresses with a power reserve of up to 62 hours.

HAND BUILT IN SWEDEN

Each Grand Tour watch is hand built in Båstad, in the southern parts of Sweden. Here we have a small workshop where our watchmaker does all the assembly, testing and, if needed, regulation of the accuracy of the movements.

The assembly and testing process takes about two weeks, and after a final visual inspection the watch is sent to the customer.
